From Ribbon Cuttin' to Penthouse Stuntin'

Tuesday night marked the grand opening of the New World Symphony campus along with the Sound Scape park. What can I say that's not clearly obvious from the photos below. The new NWS campus was dreamed up by music director Michael Tilson Thomas and created by life long friend and architect Frank Gehry along with the help of acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota. The $160 million campus is hands down the most stunning achievement in the history of Miami Beach in the past few decades. The creativity that has gone into this building is just amazing from the marvelous projection system in the park, to the magnificent "sails" that suspend effortlessly from the ceiling in the auditorium. Over the past few weeks I've been to a few of the rehearsals for the grand opening and I believe it's safe to say I will never get tired of walking into that auditorium. I want to say thank you to my girlfriend Alex for everything and I just want to let you know that I'm so proud of you for all you hard work and efforts that you've put into the opening of this new building. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work at tomorrow's concert. To everyone else, I'll let you know how it goes. For now enjoy the photos below from the ribbon cutting and premier of the projector aka the wallcast.

I also want to thank Julian from Lemon Yellow for the invite to the penthouse at Delano. The event was fun.

The video above is of video of a forever evolving clock created by video artist Tal Rosner. The piece is composed of photos of the new building in it's construction period from all angles. I'm so happy that this will be playing most of the time while the projectors are on.

A few inspiring videos I watched this weekend. I love videos like these, they just really make me want to go out and create. The first video is call Undercity Film NYC, directed by Andrew Wonder. The Second video is on Scott Schuman aka the Sartorialist and the videos below that are a cool jeffstaple interview by SHHO. Lastly is a video by VBS.TV who recently launched a new series titled League of Two. The show’s theme was to highlight the relationships between close friends who incidentally work together through the realm of architecture, fashion, music, food and film. The attention turns to Partners and Spade who encompasses a brand, store and an agency. Enjoy! (UPDATE) Just saw this wonderful video of Massimo Vignelli and wanted to add it.

Art Basel 2010 Day 4

Alright everybody here is my final post for Art Basel 2010. Man I took a million photo during the last day. This awesome Sunday started out with me and Robert going to the Nike Destroyer tour stop at Mr. Sports on Lincoln Road. After Robert copped a Destroyer Jacket and got it customized we grabbed some food at Paul's and headed to the Sanrio Small Gift Pop Up Store in Wynwood. The pop up store, tattoo parlor and gallery exhibit was put on and curated by Zio Fulcher and Roger Gastman who you might know from Banksys Exit threw the gift shop Documentary. Super cool guy. After checking out the whole exhibit we grabbed some shaved ice and headed to see our friend Tatiana's mural that she did for Primary Flight. Saw a lot of dope productions on the way.

Dedication right here. The pop up store was giving away free tattoos, and this being the last day of the store these girls had been waiting since 5 in the a.m. to get a tattoo. Crazy.

After we play some of the fresh carney games we headed to Scope and Art Asia in Wynwood.

Scope and Art Asia were not as good this year. I was feeling last years work better. We ended the night by going to Bar for a dope Adidas event that had performances by Aloe Blacc and Peanutbutter Wolf. The event also gave away free custom tees created by these guys called Hit + Run who do silk screening events and parties.

This Art Basel was probably the best Art Basel I've ever participated in. Even though I had a lot of headaches this year it was filled with good times and friends and to end it all I got to have a conversation with one of my biggest hero's Shepard Fairey aka OBEY. Its always an awesome feeling to meet one of your biggest Idols and there not an asshole. This guy was so polite and humble, I now have even more respect and admiration for him which I don't even know how that's possible. Next year I'm taking the whole week off. Basel is getting way too big to see it all at night and during the weekend. I hope everyone enjoyed these past couple of post. Peace.

Art Basel 2010 Day 3

So Saturday was a pretty lax day. Me and the homies went around the Design District and Wynwood catching up on all the small gallery exhibits and the productions and murals going on in the streets. No pictures from the day sorry I didn't have my camera on me. I went back during the week though to photograph all the finished pieces and I'll do a post on that soon. That night the crew went to the Art Basel Castle put on by Overthrow. The venue was in a warehouse complex in Wynwood that looked like a castle from the outside. Pretty dope. The event had work from Mike Giant, Claw Money, Ron English, Mike Bode and a bunch of other artist, and performing at the event was Theophilus London. This was the second time I saw him live and i was pretty dope bc I was right in the front. Another dope act that performed before Theophilus was this chick from Baltimore called Rye Rye. She put on an Awesome show. Mad energy, I loved it. Almost more then Theophilus. Anyway below are some photos from the night.

Art Basel 2010 Day 2

On Friday as soon as I got out of work I headed to the Mondrian to head to the Island but when I got there at dusk they said the boats stopped going at 4pm because the Island was over capacity, but I wasn't stressing bc the Mondrian had an open bar. On my way out I met Dante Ross. I can tell I made him happy bc I think I was the only person there that recognized him. He was grinning from ear to ear after I told him I was a fan.lol. After wards Me and Alex headed to the Standard for the Kaws book signing. Cool guy, he told me Wonderwall was designing his new studio in Brooklyn. Can't wait to see that completed. After the Standard we headed to Lincoln Road to the Taschen Book Store for the Trespassing book release. We arrived to free champagne and Shepard Fairey spinning some hip hop classics which is always good. Inside I got the book signed by mad artists. Peep the photos below.

First and foremost I want to give a shout out to my boy Edwin over at
Friends With You. Without him this post would of never been possible. So to Edwin good looking out homie! So Thursday night was the first night of Art Basel for the common folk. But the treatment I received didn't make me feel so common. That night was dedicated to the wonderful world of Friends With You. If you weren't there that night you were nowhere.

Before going into Rainbow City I ran over to the FWY store/studio to check out the Building Blocks Exhibit that they had created for Art Basel. Awesome works as usual. After checking out the works i got my free Mojito on and proceeded to Rainbow City. Once we got in we ran into a bunch of friends, and Shepard Fairey. When I was done catching up with some friends I headed into the Gift Tent that FWY set up that sold a bunch of their products along with a bunch of Natives shoes who'd they'd partnered up with for the event. FWY also partnered up with WESC and designed these really cool stripped blankets/scarfs that they were giving away for free in three different color options blue/white, red/white and green/white. I got all three color ways, don't ask me how. Later on that night I found out that they weren't even suppose to be for free. Only people with VIP cards were suppose to get one. Lucky me. Lol.

At 10 N*E*R*D came on to perform a free show that kicked ass. At the beginning of the show I noticed my boy Julian was at the front of the crowd and I knew he was going to get on stage. It's like and N*E*R*D X Miami tradition. I've been to 4 N*E*R*D concerts and out of those 4 show Julian has made it on stage 3 times to jam out with Pharrell, Shae and Chad. Tonight was no exception. I'll let you watch the video at the end to see how it went down. All in all it was a great way to start off Art Basel.

NYC, what can I say felt like home. What more can you ask for in a city. Below are some photos I took to chronicle my time in the city during the Thanksgiving weekend this year. On Black Friday I scooped up Alex at the airport in the morning and we headed to Paula's hotel. From he hotel we took the subway to Soho to participate in the black Friday madness.

So for the lack of post just started a new job so I've been getting adjusted. These sets of photos are from two weekends ago. Saturday we hit up art walk which i hadn't been to in forever. Defiantly glad i went. Spinello Gallery was hosting a solo show for TYPOE which was pretty good. After wards we hit up OHWOW which was hosting a photo exhibit by Ari Marcopoulos . We then proceeded to drive through the hectic streets of Wynwood on our way to our friend Paloma's house to celebrate our friend Gems 30th B-Day. Good time there with good company. (Paloma your house is beautiful) Afterward we went to BAR for the OHWOW after party and ended the night at Dennys. (NASTY)

Sunday we went to the Fall of the Arts Festival at the Adrienne Arsht Center to check out a bunch of the food trucks that have been popping up all over the last few months. Ended the night with the VMA's which sucked except for Kanye's performance where Pusha T killed it with that Skin colored Blazer and shirt.

I apologize greatly to everyone for the lack of post, but know that I am now back any will be blogging daily agian from here on out. With out further delay here's what i've been up to. Last week me, Alex and Robert went to the soft opening of a new Ramen spot in Midtown called Gigi . It's from the same owner as Bardot and the head chef is Jeff McInnis, a vet of Top Chef Season 5. The food was pretty good. A little pricey, but the knowlegable servers and and open kitchen made up for it.

Javier Bardem has a movie coming out soon called Biutiful. I wasn’t excited off the cuff but then after further reading into the plot I think this movie will be one of the better ones this season. I don’t want to give to much away but it has a paranormal aspect to it that makes this story really stand out. Another intriguing point is the fact this is Alejandro González Iñárritu first big film since Babel. Javier Bardem has also already won Best Actor at Cannes 2010 for his role in this film. Lots to be said and lots to be excited for with this film.

Some time in the beginning of May me and my girlfriend went to this awesome bakery and cafe called YiYas. I would always see it on my way to work for the past year and one day we just decided to try a it out and i regret not trying it out sooner. Their daily specials are killer. You know i had to try out their pulled pork sandwiches though.

You know i had to go in to the belly of the beast for memorial day weekend and take some photos. Crazy i tell you.

It really is a shame that this craft isn't around as much as it should be. I'm glad to see these guys are still keeping this craft alive. I remember a few years ago some friends went to LA and they showed me some photos from their trip and one of the photos were some ads for Tropic Thunder. I was just blown away by the shear scale of them.
This form of advertising really needs to come back in Style. Props to Stella Artois for helping to keep it alive. I love their beer even more now.

The video follows Gorillaz bass playing demigod Murdoc Niccals through a dangerous trip to the mainland from his new home on Plastic Beach – the namesake of the new record. Something goes badly wrong and Murdoc, guitarist/Cyborg Noodle and vocalist 2D end up in a high speed car chase with a local cop and an unknown assailant. Cyborg Noodle’s circuits start failing and 2D fears for their lives as the gun toting bounty hunter draws ever closer… Once again a great video starring Bruce Willis.

Mighty Murdoc remembers, “Someone was chasing me through the desert! Luckily I had my camera crew following me and they captured it all on film, so I’ve cut it up and stuck it back together for my Stylo video! That’ll learn me not to leave the safe, toxic, isolated haven of Plastic Beach…”

Stylo is directed by Jamie Hewlett and produced by Cara Speller for Zombie Flesh Eaters, with live action through HSI Productions in Los Angeles, and animation by Passion Pictures in London.

The quote above is from 13thWitness and it applied to me today. I was driving down Biscayne on my way to lunch when I saw this man dressed so Sartorialist. He was wearing a tan dress shirt with rolled up sleeves and matching slacks that were tucked into his tube socks, with some old sneakers on. He had this thick black sweater wrapped around his chest like an X and tied in the back. I doubled back around the block to see if I could take a portrait of him. As I got closer I noticed sticking out of his sweater were some small colorful flowers. And tucked in the back of his slacks a newspaper. He kept a well trimmed mustache and beard. And as he walked down the street towards me smoking a cigarette he looked as if he won a million bucks. I stepped out of my car to ask him if I could take a photo of him and it was then that I realized he was homeless and I that point he noticed my camera and realized what I was going to ask him. He turned around and ran the other way. Leaving me in the street looking stuck. He was dressed so well and you could tell he took pride in the way he look and it was that same pride that wouldn't allow him to be photographed. I honestly think that if I could have photographed him it would have been the best photograph I ever took. I really hope I have the opportunity to see him again. The way he dressed really inspired me in the sense that no matter how ruff things are there's always something to look forward to whether it's seeing your significant other after a long days work or getting up in the morning and looking your best. Man I hope I run into him soon.

So i just saw the first episode of How To Make It In America and the shit was dope. Considering it was from Mark Wahlberg I knew it would be because he be killing it with Entourage. And I know they used the same person from Entourage who chooses the score because both shows have the same taste in music which I love. I mean come on, dude in the Range was bumping Camron's "Down and Out". The only thing that upsets me is they shot and edited the show the same way that i was going to on an upcoming project of mine. Damn I need to stop sleeping on things!
