Phillip Velasco

iPhilms

I've been a fan of Phillip Velasco's work since high school. I've watched his cinematography skills rise through the years and it just keeps getting better. Who else can make of video of people packing boxes and working on the computer look so gangster. To peep more of his work click his Vimeo link above or check out his blog iPhilms.net

Bape Furoshiki Set

Today i was flipping threw the new issue of surface magazine and i came across a little article about Design Miami. The article had an image of the Moore Space in the design district were the event was first held in 2005. Now if you know me, then you know my favorite venue in the city is the Moore Space. it's just so ill. The permanent instillation for 2005's Design Miami is a perfect fusion of old/classic mixed with new/modern. The installation was designed by one of my favorite designers Zaha Hadid and she couldn't have done a better job of fusing her abstract shapes with the insides of this historic Miami building. Here's a photo i took of the venue at this years sneaker pimps. Sorry it's a little blurry. I was jamming out.

This now brings me to want i wanted to talk about. Fusing old with new. When done correctly some of most interesting design is created. To me Bape did an wonderful job of taking something old and modernizing it to make it relevant today.

Here is some info on the Bape Furoshiki set.
"Tracing back to cultural roots, A Bathing Ape look to drop a new set of Furoshiki’s, a traditional gift wrapping linen. Two different colorways are shown, including a signature camo piece and solid green with a graphic of Baby Milo. Both retail for ¥6,090 (Approx. $68 USD) and will be offered as Bapexclusive items during the Kyoto opening on December 12th, 2009." - Hypebeast.

Match Made by Malfie

This past weekend two of the most creative people i've ever met [Erika & Stephan] and had the opportunity to work with got married in one of the most original and coolest weddings i've ever had the opportunity to attend. To start off the location of were they had the ceremony was awesome. A place called Magic City farms in Little Haiti. When you first arrive you think "Wow i can't believe a place like this exists in Miami." and for a few hours i forgot i was in Miami. To be honest i wasn't in Miami, I was was in Erika and Stephan's world. That day was their day. I had a lot of fun and was in the company of good people. Once again guys congratulations and i wish the two of you nothing but the best.

P.S. awesome playlist guys.

New York State of Mind

So this week my office received the new issue of Gotham magazine which is the New York City version of Ocean Drive. On the cover was the big homie HOVA.

I was like "Fresh!" then i remembered i did an ad for Fontainebleau for this issue and i was like "Fuck." The reason being is there is a good chance Jay-Z saw the ad since he was on the cover and chances are he just skimmed over it, thinking nothing of it. That was an opportunity to make him say "This ad is fresh."

Quote on quote fresh ad's can be done by me for Fontainebleau but forces beyond my control prevent them from ever seeing the light of day. LOL. Oh well sooner or later I'll do a collaboration with Jay. Mark my words.

On a higher note Atlantis resorts in the Bahamas bit my newest ad for Fontainebleau that we've been running in the Miami Herald and New York Time for the past few weeks. Which is pretty sad because that ad wasn't all that great either. Well you know what they say though. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

I'm your pusha

I have to say yesterday was a pretty good Friday. Fuck it i think it was the best Friday I've ever had! I started the day off pretty straight doing a photo shoot of my jobs body of work for the new website. 2'oclock rolled around and it was time to hit up ATC for the Clipse Album listening party for Til the Casket Drops. I scooped up my boy Kyle and Alex and got there around 3. It was a nice little turnout. Nothing to crazy, every body was just vibing listening to the new album which by the way is off the chain. Pusha and Malice are some cool and humble ass dudes. They were there just chillen and talking to their fans as if they were long time friends catching up after they haven't seen each other in a while. Since i saw that these dudes weren't on some I'm to good to talk to you shit, I stepped to to Pusha T and asked if they used multiple designers for their clothing line Play Clothes. "No we just use one." Damn! shot down. LOL it's all good i found out late from my boy Julian that every aspect of that clothing line is done in Virginia from design, to production, to marketing etc.. So they oversee the whole process. You know what they say the hood takes care of it's own. I dipped outta there around 3:45 to head back to work. Note: working on a tiny ass laptop sucks. Can't wait for that 27 in iMac next week.

I picked up Alex around 6 so we could head over to the design district to see a new show called Little Sister at the Spinello Gallery. We left the gallery to pick up some long awaited food at Pollo Tropical who our friend Uriel had never had, Blasphemy! After we ate at Paula's deluxe apartment in the sky lol.

After we ate we dipped with some more friends to UM to see The Wailers and Common perform at their homecoming. I had only found out about Common performing at the show a few hours prior. I knew the Wailers were playing but i though homecoming for UM was tonight. Lucky me huh. Hands down Common fucking killed it. GOOD music for real. I decided it today it was the best concert I've ever been to. First off he's one of my favorite emcee's, second i was with a bunch of amazing people, and third the show was free! You can't knock that. Big up to UM for putting on these shows for homecoming. Last year they had Kidz in the Hall and N.E.R.D. and that show was off the chain too.
